Residents voiced concerns in 2021

King County has seen an increase in failed septic systems, which can have significant environmental impacts. When septic systems fail, untreated wastewater can contaminate groundwater and surface water, leading to increased levels of bacteria and pathogens that can be harmful to both humans and wildlife. In addition, excess nutrients from failed septic systems can lead to harmful algae blooms, which can have negative impacts on aquatic ecosystems.
